The LS600hL was the world’s first V8-powered full hybrid production vehicle, launched as the flagship of the Lexus range in 2007 and continuing through to 2017. Combining a 5.0L V8 petrol engine with a high-output 165kW electric motor and all-wheel drive via a two-stage eCVT, it delivered a total system output of 327kW — comparable to a V12 at the time, but with reduced emissions and improved refinement. The long-wheelbase L version was the most luxurious Lexus ever offered in Australia, featuring four individual seats, rear seat entertainment, Mark Levinson reference audio, air suspension, and extensive use of premium materials throughout and notably the first ever production vehicle to offer LED headlights as standard, years ahead of luxury peers. Despite its global prestige, sales in Australia were limited, with fewer than 100 units sold annually during its peak years. Contemporary reviews praised the LS600hL for its near-silent operation, impeccable cabin comfort, and groundbreaking hybrid drivetrain and it generated one of the lowest warranty claim rates in its class a testament to Lexus' reputation for durability. Today, it remains a highly collectible modern luxury saloon, valued for its engineering, craftsmanship, and status as a technological pioneer in hybrid performance sedans.
