The ninth generation of Oldsmobile 98 was introduced for the 1971 model year, and was offered as a 7.5L Rocket V8 powered coupe or sedan. Production of the ninth generation 98 continued until 1976, when it was replaced by the Tenth Generation Oldsmobile 98. Unlike most manufactures at the time, Oldsmobile took no notice of the 1970's oil crisis, producing the largest 98 sedan ever with the 455ci 7.5L V8 and offered significant luxury for the time, all at a lower rate than Cadillac's and Lincoln's.
It is noted that this example has been in the local Canberra region for over 20 years and carries current full ACT registration until 15/11/2025. The 98 has also been converted to RHD and standard features include, power brakes with front discs, cigarette lighter, electric clock, electronic ignition, bumper impact strips, lamp package, air conditioning (blows, not cold), 455 CID engine, molding package, remote-controlled outside mirror, power seat, power windows, power steering, Deluxe steering wheel, chrome wheel discs and a 3-speed Turbo-Hydramatic transmission.
Overall the car presents well for its age, but could benefit from a sympathetic minor restoration as the paint and body is a little tired particularly under the vinyl top, or it could be easily enjoyed as it is. The car is a definite head turner and with prices of these rising in America this is sure to be a rare and valuable buy in Aus.
