KEY FACTS
The Rennmax BN3 is a product of Australia’s golden era of club and junior formula racing, designed and built by renowned constructor Bob Britton in the late 1960s. Introduced around 1969, the BN3 was developed primarily for Formula 3 and later adapted for other lightweight racing categories, utilising a simple but highly effective tubular spaceframe chassis, low frontal bodywork and dependable production-based engines such as the Ford Kent. Rennmax cars were widely respected for their balance, reliability and competitiveness, and became a familiar sight at circuits like Warwick Farm, Sandown and Calder, driven by both emerging talent and experienced privateers. Today, a 1969 Rennmax BN3 represents an important piece of Australian motorsport history, embodying the ingenuity and craftsmanship that helped shape the country’s thriving grassroots racing scene.
This example is the original chassis of the Milden Alfa 1969 from the Bob Britton stable. The car was rebuilt by Len De Arcy and raced in hillclibs and circuits at Oran Park and Amaroo Park. The Rennmax was then restored in 2016 by Lloyd Cleaver for Bob Wootton to original F2 specifications with a Alfa Romeo 1600cc engine and a Hewland 5-speed manual gearbox. Features include Adjustable suspension, low centre mounted battery, RPA race gear 4 point harness, engine brace, Battery isolator, Disc brakes all round, Trans axle, External oil cooler, Fuel surge tank and more. Some spare body panels are also included.
This marks a unique opportunity to acquire a part of Australian Motorsport history, in running condition with some minor work needed, ideal for track days, competition or private collection.
