The AMC Rebel was produced for only a short 5 years and would be also built outside of the USA. Australia sold the Rebel under the name Rambler as opposed to the AMC marque they were called overseas and would all be assembled in the AMI plant in Port Melbourne. AMI recieved the Rebel sedans and wagons semi assembled from the USA with the remaining parts boxed inside the vehicles. Being that Australian vehicles are RHD the dash and cluster were utilised from the AMC Matador instead of the traditonal box design of the Rebel's overseas. 1970 would see only 71 Rebel wagons produced in Australia with an update in 1970 for all Rebel's to be fitted with the 30ci in V8 engine and 3spd automatic transmission. Across the 5 year run it is believed approximately 450 wagons were produced across all trim and motor combination levels. This Rambler would be one of, if not the rarest Rebel in Australia and possibly one of the most unique in the world. Finished in Deep Russet Burgundy this Rebel was also finished in top tier SST trim making it a particularly rare find. Assembled in Australia it is a factory RHD V8 station wagon that has been professionally converted to a hearse. This vehicle was originally featured in the Gosford Classic Car Museum and since being purchased has undergone a sympathetic restoration to bring it back to factory. The Rambler is still matching numbers and the transmission was reconditioned and sealed in late 2019. Any worn parts were replaced, and refurbished where possible. The Hearse has had 15" Centerline wheels fitted and a 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust system to complement the rest of the car. A pallet with the original wheels, rear seats and another tailgate are also included in sale, as well as assorted other spares. There is so much to be seen and told about this vehicle, including the Mahogany silk lined casket in the back and dual opening tailgate.
