Considered as the flagship of Mercedes SUV line-up the GLS is the equivalent to the S-Class sedan and was introduced in 2006 as a luxury 7-seat four wheel drive. The second generation X166 was introduced to the market in late 2012 and remained in production until 2019. In 2016 the X166 was facelifted, and introduced formally the GLS badge, where previous models were labeled as GL. The GL63 AMG was introduced in 2013 and came fitted with a hand-built 5.5-litre twin turbocharged V8 that produced 410kw, which also received a revision in 2016 to produce and impressive 430kw.
