In 1998 vehicle giant Volkswagen Auto Group purchased the Bentley brand off Rolls Royce, with the Continental GT being their first release in 2003. While still being prominently hand built, it was the first Bentley ever to utilise mass production techniques and not be completely coach built. The benefit of this production method was instant, giving the brand a far larger customer base with service and repairs becoming cheaper and easier. Introduced in 2005, the Flying Spur combined the luxury and craftsmanship of a traditional Bentley with the V12 twin turbo performance of a modern grand tourer.
