The 1973 model year marked a turning point for Buick’s performance lineup. With the introduction of the new “Colonnade” A-body design, the Century Gran Sport replaced the previous Skylark-based GS models, bringing updated styling, improved ride comfort, and a stronger emphasis on the overall luxury. Available in several performance configurations, the flagship was the GS 455 which was powered by Buick’s massive 455 cubic-inch V8, delivering some of the highest torque figures of the GM based V8 at the time.

Although emissions regulations and pressures were beginning to squeeze the muscle car market completely, the 1973 GS 455 stood as one of the last true big-block Buicks. Its combination of muscle car performance, premium interior finishes, and distinctive Buick refinements made it a unique choice for buyers who wanted both muscle and luxury. Today, these cars are recognised as rare survivors of an era when Detroit was still building large-displacement performance machines.

Very few of these Buick's were produced, let alone surviving today, marking flagship models such as this Gran Sport 455 a truly rare find, with only two believed to be residing in Australia.

This example is finished in a deep burgundy metallic, complemented by a white vinyl roof and white vinyl interior, a classic and refined combination. Under the hood sits a reconditioned 455ci V8 with approximately 2,000 miles on this motor, paired with a Turbo Hydra-matic 350 Automatic. The GS badging, color-keyed sport mirrors, and period-correct trim all remain in place, preserving the factory-correct look that defines this model. The car resides on the 14" Magnum 500 style wheels with white wall tyres. This example has also been right hand drive converted, with the conversion completed some time ago by Chapel Engineering Melbourne. The vendor states along with the reconditioning of the motor, the radiator was replaced along with the brakes and the car received a full respray. 

Inside, the interior is finished in a white vinyl with front bucket & rear bench seats with a trimmed cabin that retains its original charm with factory air-conditioning, analogue clock and power windows. The dashboard has yet to be restored and does presents with some cracks.

Presented in a desirable color combination, this 1973 Buick Century GS 455 is both a rare collector’s piece and a capable, enjoyable driver. This is a true big-block Buick that blends style, comfort, and performance in equal measure with significant money spent on ensuing the car presents as it does today.
